Ronan Launches Five New Community Projects to Spark Downtown Revitalization

22 Mar 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ronan, MT – March 21, 2025 – The Steering Committee for the Montana Pilot Community Tourism Grant Program (MTPCTGP) has officially approved five community development projects that will now move into the planning phase. These initiatives reflect the community’s commitment to downtown revitalization, walkability, tourism enhancement, and cultural enrichment—all in alignment with the Ronan Downtown Revitalization Mater Plan.

  1. Façade Improvement Grant (FIG) Program This matching grant program offers up to $10,000 to local business and property owners for exterior upgrades that preserve Ronan’s historic charm while boosting economic activity. Façade improvements are proven to attract new businesses and foot traffic—driving real dollars into downtown. This program lays the groundwork for long-term private investment and economic vitality.
  2. Lake County Fairgrounds Bathroom Expansion With over 70 events held annually, the Fairgrounds is a vital regional hub. Phase 1 of the bathroom expansion will replace outdated facilities with modern, accessible restrooms, enhancing comfort and accessibility for thousands of visitors. This shovel-ready project directly supports rural tourism growth and public infrastructure enhancement.
  3. 3rd Avenue Walkability Project (Phase I & II) Walkable communities are thriving communities. This two-phase, multi-year project will create safer sidewalks, improved lighting, and pedestrian-friendly connections from key community centers—like the Boys & Girls Club and the Skate Park—to downtown Ronan. The project supports public safety, tourism, and accessibility for all residents.
  4. Spring Creek Mural Project Led by the Ronan Chamber of Commerce and the Mural Committee, this project will commission 2–3 large murals celebrating local heritage and landscape. By engaging artists and youth, the murals will enhance downtown's visual identity while deepening cultural connections. More murals are planned for future phases.
  5. Entertainer Theater Architectural & Environmental Review A Preliminary Architectural Report (PAR) and environmental assessment will chart the course to restore the historic Entertainer Theater into a music and arts venue. This community anchor will drive tourism, activate Main Street, and support the Western Montana Musicians Cooperative’s vision for a vibrant creative economy.

A website outlining progress on these and future PCTGP projects is scheduled to go live in April or early May of 2025. The website will include resources, public announcements, meeting schedules, and opportunities to get involved. These projects, now entering planning and design, represent a big step in Ronan’s broader revitalization strategy.
